All Members (not Associates) must meet the Member entry criteria and are required to undertake Professional Director Development (PDD). If you do not indicate acceptance of this condition, you can still apply to join as an Associate. ​ MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES ​ Associate ​ You can join the Independent Directors Association as an Associate if you are either: ​ Interested in the work of the IDAPNG and do not meet Member criteria A full-time student at a tertiary institution. A AICD Foundations of Directorship Course graduate or graduate of an equivalent program. A PNGID Director Development Program graduate. ​ Professional Member IDA-PM ​ You can join the Independent Directors Association as a Professional Member if you are any of these: ​ A director as defined in the Companies Act A member of the board of a government or quasi-government body A member of the board of a not-for-profit organisation A senior executive reporting to a board, a minister, or an equivalent A partner or sole proprietor in a professional practice or unincorporated business An academic at a tertiary institution at the level of head of department or above, or an equivalent Someone who, in the IDAPNG Board of Director's opinion, has a role comparable to any of these, and experience, qualifications, or professional background suitable for a Member. A AICD Company Directors Course graduate or graduate of an equivalent program. A GIA certified Governance Professional ​ As a Member, you have to: ​ Ensure you renew your membership annually Meet the continuing professional development requirement. Chartered Member IDA-CM ​ To be eligible to become a Chartered Member you must: ​ Be a member of the governing body of a qualifying organisation contiuously for at least five (5) years. Complete the IoD Certificate and Diploma in Company Direction, GIA Effective Directors Course, AICD International Company Directors Course, or an equivalent. Pass the IDAPNG Chartered Member Assessment or an equivalent. Confirm that you uphold the principles of the IDAPNG Charter, and are of good character and a fit and proper person to be admitted as a Chartered Member. Have at least ten (10) years’ experience as a director or equivalent in at least one (1) organisations of substance . ​ As a Chartered Member you make an annual confirmation that you meet the continuing professional development requirement, uphold the principles of the IDAPNG Charter , and are of good character. ​ Chartered Fellow IDA-CF ​ Membership as a Chartered Fellow of the Independent Directors Association is by application or invitation. ​ To be eligible to become a Chartered Fellow you must: ​ Be an IDAPNG member continuously for at least ten (10) years when you apply. Satisfy the IDAPNG Board of Directors that you have the experience and background appropriate for a Chartered Fellow. Confirm that you uphold the principles of the IDAPNG Charter, and are of good character and a fit and proper person to be admitted as a Chartered Fellow. ​ You also have to meet the following criteria: ​ You have completed the IoD's Certificate and Diploma in Company Direction or an equivalent. You have ​ passed the IDAPNG Corporate Governance Course or an equivalent. You have ​ passed the IDAPNG Chartered Member Assessment. You have at least ten (10) years’ experience as a director or equivalent in two (2) or more organisations of substance . You have experience and background that, in the opinion of the IDAPNG Board of Directors in exceptional circumstances, makes you suitable for membership as a Chartered Fellow. For example, you have given long, exemplary service in an organisation that you built into a significant business. ​ As a Chartered Fellow you make an annual confirmation that you meet the continuing professional development requirement, uphold the charter’s principles, and are of good character. ​ Distinguished Fellow IDA-DF ​ The Distinguished Fellow award is the Independent Directors Association's highest accolade. ​ Distinguished Fellow awards are made annually to IDAPNG members with distinguished governance careers, or who have made an outstanding contribution in governance to the IDAPNG, the community, or business. ​ To be eligible for membership as a Distinguished Fellow of the Independent Directors Association, you have to: ​ Have, in the opinion of the IDAPNG Board of Directors, sustained a prominent and distinguished career as a director or equivalent, made a significant contribution to the Association, or made an eminent or significant governance contribution to the community or business Have accepted our Board of Director's invitation to membership as a Distinguished Fellow. ​ There is no continuing professional development requirement for Distinguished Fellows. ​ Retired Fellow IDA-RF ​ To be eligible for membership as a Retired Fellow of the Independent Directors Association, you have to: ​ Be, or have been, a Chartered Fellow Not be a paid executive, director, or equivalent Be a person the IDAPNG council has no reason to consider is not of good character or a fit and proper person to be a Chartered Fellow ​ There is no continuing professional development requirement for Retired Fellows. ​ Retired Member ​ To be eligible for membership as a Retired Member of the Independent Directors Association, you have to: ​​ Be aged sixty-five (65) or over; and Be, or have been, a Professional Member or Chartered Member Not occupy a paid executive, director, or equivalent position; and Be a person the IDAPNG Board has no reason to consider is not of good character ​ There is no continuing professional development requirement for Retired Members. ​ ​ ​ Membership Form IDAPNG By-laws

    Directors' Economic Confidence Index A timely look into boardroom sentiment in Papua New Guinea . ​ Launched in the second quarter of 2023, the IDAPNG Directors' Economic Confidence Index is Papua New Guinea’s first monthly pulse survey of board members on their perspective of the PNG economy and how policies and current events are affecting the companies they oversee. ​ Every quarter, we ask company direc tors questions regarding their confidence in the current business environment, their outlook for the economy six to twelve months from now, and their projections for their company’s revenue, profit, and cash/debt ratio for the year ahead. Supplementing those three questions are questions on current events, as they pertain to corporate strategy and governance. ​ Participation in the poll is reserved exclusively for dir ectors of PNG companies, across all sectors, industries and markets. ​ The survey remains open till the last day of the month, thus making for a very timely assessment of sentiment. The data is then compiled and analysed to establish trends and calculate the Index’s weighted averages.
